The Gems of Atlantis have been stolen and are being hidden away by a gang of Sharks. Which of the Mermaid crew can score the biggest heist? Each turn your Mermaid will get to roll dice, locking Sharks, and saving any other dice. You can stop rolling at any time. As long as you haven’t rolled 3 Sharks. In that case, you’re caught and your turn is over. You will score nothing!

But if you dodged the Sharks, each of your dice showing a Gem moves your marker ahead on the scoring track. You’ll notice that there are special spaces on the scoring track that if you manage to stop on, you can choose not to take all of those Gems, then they will give you a special benefit!

Players will play to a set number of score track cards, which can be arranged in any order the players choose or randomly to allow a variety of bonuses to occur! Players will find plenty of challenge as well with the 3 levels of difficulty of dice. The Hard dice are more rewarding, but also have more sharks!

Watch those chomping Sharks as you roll your way to an Ocean-sized heist!

It’s been a very busy month! January was going to be focused on building up the Gamefound rewards for our last FlickFleet crowdfunding campaign, but at the end of the month we had to completely change our plans, start shipping ourselves instead of via Games Quest in response to the latest tariff changes. The good news is that our US backers are going to get their games much quicker than we were expecting. In the meantime, I’ve been focused on my next print at home roll and write game: Gal4Xeon – a 4X game where you have 10 rounds to conquer the galaxy. As with my previous roll and writes, it’s playable solo or with friends. And seeing as this one is more multiplayer solitaire than the other four, this one can be played with any number of friends! If it sounds like something you might be interested in, there’s a link in the second update to a taster version of the game which lets you play 5 of ten rounds on the first map for free.

The full game will feature 2-6 maps (depending on unlocked stretch goals) and all but the first map will feature variable setup to increase replayability. Follow the campaign to be notified when it launches in April!

Howdy troopers, been a while. First, I want to recap my Dragonmeet 2025 experience. Dragonmeet 2025 was an incredible event to end the year on. Got loads of interest from people during the event. Black Metro sold out before midday. Caught up with indie designers from Stop, Drop & Roll, Minerva Tabletop and ChickensN’Aliens. Played a couple of interesting games at the play test zone including Bandwagon and Ice Cream Chaos. Took some cosplay photos. Huge thanks to ArcadiaGameTables for the collaboration opportunity.

Next, I want to highlight my road to UKGE 2026: 31st Jan – 1st Feb: To Boldly Game – National Space Centre, Leicester. 14th Feb – 15th Feb: Tabletop Gaming Live – Doncaster Racecourse. 28th Feb – 1st Mar: Paradice – Worthing. 8th Mar – 9th Mar: Bedford Tabletop Expo – Bedford International Athletic Stadium. 29th May – 31st May: UK Games Expo – National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

If you plan to be at one of these events, please seek me out and say hello!

Happy New Year from the Mimir’s Challenge team — and what a start to 2026 it’s been! Åse and Kristian welcomed a brand-new board gamer into the world in early January 🍼✨

January has mostly been about learning the ropes of parenthood, playing a lot of impromptu mime games (mostly food, poop, and sleep), and soaking up those precious early days together. ❤️

Before the new year, we also had an amazing time running our own booth at the local Christmas/Yule market — it was such a joy sharing Mimir’s Challenge with curious holiday shoppers. And we’re thrilled to share that the game is now available at Outland, Norway’s leading board game store! 🎉

We’re still working on making it easier to get the game internationally. Our planned digital version is coming — we’ve recently switched from Adobe to Affinity for our design workflow, which has introduced a bit of a learning curve. But once we’ve got our asset pipeline sorted, we’ll be back on track.

If you’ve had the chance to play Mimir’s Challenge, we’d really love to hear your thoughts! A quick rating or review on BoardGameGeek helps others discover the game and decide if it’s right for them. It makes a big difference for a small indie team like ours — and we’re grateful for every bit of support. 🙏

Malus Hortus – Malus Hortus is in the UK! Woohoo! It will be with me shortly and I’ve been getting everything ready to send orders out ASAP. If you haven’t secured your copy yet you can still find it on GameFound. Once I have all the pre orders sent out I’ll be listing it on my shop here and on Etsy.

Elemental Sprite Plushies & Elemental Island – The Backerkit campaign for Elemental Sprite Plushies will soon be ending, please check it out at the link below. I’m ecstatic that they’ve been so popular, they’re so adorable I nearly had to stop people running off with my prototypes of them at To Boldly Game. This campaign is funding the preview copies of Elemental Island which is a sweet roll and write game where all the graphics are photography of crocheted items.

I’ve designed some enamel pins that are stretch goals on the campaign, so far we’ve unlocked a rainbow D20 pin and the next will be the Feline Felonies cat pin, I’m really hoping we make it that far.

Events – I had a wonderful time at To Boldly Game at the National Space Centre in Leicester. It’s a wonderful location for a convention; all the space exhibits look amazing and being at such a small yet warm and friendly convention meant I could see my indie game designer friends…. From my stand! That never happens at UKGE.

At the end of February, I’ll be at Paradice in Worthing where I’ll also get to see more indie game designer friends as well as more of you! It’s the first event that I’ll have Malus Hortus with me to sell, it was a really popular demo last year so I’m hoping people will want some co-operative horror fantasy gaming goodness, fingers crossed!
